A stroll in the afternoon sun of late summer, led me to this magical workshop. Barely inside the door, I stood mesmerized, feeling as if I had entered a hidden corner of my mind, brought to life. To me, the most beautiful things are when the senses are engaged. A studio, turned storefront allows for a hands on assembly of one’s own creation. Sands from spain, tree bark from mexico, succulents strewn between sheets of music make for a landscape of layered light. Containers filled with these curiosities, combine to create compositions. Pieces of personalities are picked from piles of seashells and jars of stones, as the process becomes one of organizing chaos. Having a place to put all the tiny memories accumulated from travels into an aesthetic assortment, fulfills my desire for cohesion on a small scale. A modern mosaic that has it’s origin back in botany of the early 1800’s, brings a new awareness to time and place.
